You Are Unfamiliar With Elder Abuse Issues

We pray that your loved one has never been the victim of abuse. If this is your first experience with elder abuse, you may not know much about the issue. Even little is known about pursuing justice for abuse. The knowledge and skills of our Mission nursing home abuse law firm can be of significant assistance. Without such information, you may need to conduct numerous hours of research:

  • Symptoms and signs of elder abuse
  • How to take legal action following abuse
  • How to evaluate abuse liability
  • Appropriate damages in cases of elder abuse
  • The remaining factors in a matter of nursing home abuse

We will appoint a knowledgeable nursing home abuse attorney. We may also employ specialists in elder abuse to assist with your case.

What Are the Common Types of Nursing Home Abuse?

Many define nursing home abuse as the intentional infliction of harm or the deliberate disregard for the needs of nursing home patients. However, there are other types of abuse, including:

Physical Abuse

This is the use of physical force that causes harm, disability, or suffering. Examples include beating, punching, pushing, shoving, slapping, shaking, and kicking, as well as the misuse of medications or physical restrictions.

Sexual Abuse

This includes any non-consensual sexual touch or behavior. Sexual activity or contact with a patient of a nursing home who is unable to consent is always sexual abuse.

Psychological or Emotional Abuse

This refers to the intentional causing of emotional pain by verbal or nonverbal actions. This involves shouting or yelling, insults, intimidation, humiliation, belittling, harassment, physical assault threats, or denial of rights or requirements.

Financial Abuse

This entails the inappropriate or unlawful use of the money and assets of a nursing home patient. Examples include unauthorized use of credit cards or bank accounts, theft, incorrect use of legal guardianship or power of attorney, and forcing a nursing home patient to modify financial or estate planning agreements for the abuser’s advantage.

Neglect

This often refers to a nursing home resident’s rejection or failure to fulfill their responsibilities. Nursing home neglect involves providing needs such as food, water, shelter, medication, cleanliness, or safety. Our Missouri neglect attorney can help you recover compensation. Call our Mission law office for sound legal advice on your case!

Self-Neglect

This refers to a senior’s behavior that endangers their safety, such as neglecting to supply or drink proper food and water, wearing suitable clothes, and attending to personal hygiene and medicine needs. When nursing home employees fail to interfere when a person participates in self-neglect, they may be guilty of abuse and neglect.

What Are the Important Things You Can Do If You Suspect Your Elder Loved One is a Victim of Nursing Home Abuse?

If you suspect that a loved one is in urgent danger of physical injuries, dial 911 immediately.

If you suspect that abuse or neglect is a recurring issue at the nursing home, submit your suspicions to the administration. The abuse or neglect may be restricted to a subset of personnel. If so, the nursing home should take prompt action to fix the issue and ensure the safety of your loved one.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) should be notified of nursing home abuse cases. The department operates an Adult Abuse and Neglect Hotline from 7:00 AM to 12:00 AM, 365 days a year, at 1-800-392-0210. The online reporting service is accessible 24 hours a day on the DHSS website. You can also file a report with the Division of Regulation and Licensure of DHSS to start an inquiry into the nursing care facility where your loved one resides.

Gather evidence to support your accusations of elder abuse or neglect in a nursing facility. Take images of any indications or symptoms indicating that your loved one has been abused or neglected. Talk with another resident or nursing home staff member who may have observed the alleged nursing home negligence or abuse.

History of Mission City

Small nomadic Kansas and Osage Indian tribes inhabited northeast Kansas before the arrival of European immigrants. In 1825, the federal government awarded the Shawnee tribe the entirety of Johnson County. The Kansas – Nebraska Act of 1854 ended the Indian reserve and made the territory available to European settlers. From Independence, Missouri, to Santa Fe, New Mexico, a wagon road was created.

From Westport, the path proceeded via Mission, Overland Park, and Olathe. Two watering stations existed in the vicinity of 5920 Maple and 6201 W. 61st Terrace. This 1926 suburb, formerly known as Mission Hill Acres, was split into 245 lots and offered for sale by the Breyfogle family. There were five companies in 1935: a pharmacy, a restaurant, a hardware and dry goods store, a barbershop, and a cleaning and pressing firm.

In 1938, postal officials suggested that Mission Hill Acres be shortened to Mission. Mission, Kansas, incorporated in 1951, is where the heart of Johnson County meets the cool of Kansas City. They are proud without being pretentious, progressive while being entrenched in their heritage, and developing while remaining consistent in their resolve to improve in ways that benefit the people and the environment.
